During my childhood, I was always heavily involved in sport, with my main sport of choice being rugby. I played to a high level with my school, travelling to New Zealand for a month-long tour of both islands. We won every match we played, and this tour really instilled in me the sense of shared values and togetherness that can occur when a team is functioning as one unit.
Throughout my time studying Chiropractic, I knew that I wanted to become involved with sports teams and athletes. Due to this, I spent a lot of time furthering my knowledge in specialised areas such as sports injury prevention and rehabilitation. I have also taken part in several weekend long seminars, learning from the likes of Professor Stuart Mcgill, Professor Andry Vleeming and the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic. These seminars all gave me skills I put to use immediately with the patients and athletes I work with.
As well as these seminars, I have taken several more regarding management of conditions affecting the extremity joints, particularly adjustments of these joints. This is something that is incredibly useful when working with athletes, but is also essential for ensuring every patient is able to have the most optimum, tailored care they can. For example, recurrent ankle sprains lead the foot and ankle joints to become stiff and locked up, so if these cannot be freed and given proper movement again, the rehabilitation process will be drawn out.
These seminars and extra knowledge I assimilated allowed me the opportunity to work with a local premiership football team during my final year at AECC. This was an incredible experience and really affirmed in me the desire to pursue this even further in the future. It was incredible to not only see the facilities of a premiership football team but also to be working with athletes of such a high quality for an entire season. The margins in football at that level are very minute, so the margins in the treatment of these athletes must be even smaller.
I particularly enjoy tackling issues from the ground up. A strong and stable base is essential for all ground based sports as well as daily living, and without a properly functioning foot and ankle complex, this is unattainable. I take great care to look at areas distant to the area of complaint, ensuring I do not miss any global problems that may be contributing towards the issue.
I thoroughly enjoy working as an Eastbourne sports chiropractor with the sports teams and athletes here in Eastbourne and love being able to provide chiropractic care to so many different people. Although I have mostly been working with footballers, I have also worked with an international level powerlifter and a Master’s level triathlete. No matter your age or ability, whether you be amateur or professional, I will work with you to optimise your performance capabilities.
While I can see patients at the clinic I work at in Eastbourne, I understand that as an athlete perhaps this is something that cannot be scheduled. Therefore, upon request I also offer bespoke at-site services. These can be for an individual or for a team, and can involve anything from pure chiropractic services to running pre season movement screening to check for injury risk.
Whatever your sport or ability may be, as an Eastbourne chiropractor I hope you will keep me in mind. Please visit the book now page to schedule an appointment with me to see how we can work together.
