Traditional Chiropractic Philosophy

Chiropractic was developed around the concept of ‘innate intelligence’, that is, the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

This was underpinned by the idea that subluxations (restrictions within the joints of the spine) prevent the body from expressing it’s natural health, and that by removing these subluxations, the chiropractor is ‘freeing’ the body’s innate intelligence, expressed through the nervous system to organise and orchestrate healing and optimal wellbeing.

As I chiropractor I respect the history and philosophy of traditional chiropractic. However, I seek to learn more about current evidence as I grow my experience base to ensure that I consistently deliver gold-standard care while developing personally tailored care plans for every person that comes under my care.

The World Health Organisation Defines Health as:

‘The state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’

Throughout my 10 years of University study, I’ve been passionate about health. I feel that recognising that health is not just the absence of disease or symptoms, but a complete state of wellbeing, opens a wealth of possibilities for ways to care for ourselves and achieve ‘health’.

Good health depends on your body’s ability to cope with the everyday stresses of life on all levels. Physical health is when each and every cell, tissue and organ of the body are functioning at their best.

Chiropractors Understand Health Comes from Within

Chiropractors understand that physical health comes from within. Our bodies have an inborn organisation that strives to keep the body functioning. Your body knows what it needs to do to heal and to stay healthy (you could call this innate intelligence like the traditional chiropractors, or another word I like to use is homeostasis).

Sometimes, however, the stresses of life can overwhelm this beautiful inborn organisation and we can develop aches and pains as well as other symptoms. As a chiropractor, I aim to listen to these symptoms to give me clues as to what’s causing the problem. My focus is on finding the root of the problem and helping your body heal, repair and recover. I want to help your body to adapt to the stresses of life, relieving your musculoskeletal aches and pains.

Chiropractic Advice as well as Treatment

Treatment is designed to carefully improve the way things are working. I closely follow the progress of patients under my care and give advice on posture, incorporate exercises, stretches and much more.

My focus is not just the painful symptoms. In fact I don’t see “pain” as the problem itself. The pain is just a symptom of the underlying problem. It’s the body’s way of alerting us to take action. So, with my patients I like to focus on the root of that pain.

Just as the WHO’s definition of Health describes, being truly healthy and well isn’t simply the absence of these symptoms. Health is about functioning at our best. So, I’ll give you as much advice, self-help tips, exercises and care to help restore proper function as well as getting rid of your pain.
